Here are a few picture I took over the weekend of how the outside looks. Liz has worked hard on flowers and other lanscaping and it looks great.

I got motivated again. I took a couple days off of work last week to finish the floors. Back in March we put down new flooring in the living room and since then we have had a part of floor unfinished and the rest of the existing floor which was in pretty bad looking shape. I rented a orbital sander to get the job done but after 4 hours of sanding I realized it was not going to cut it. As you can see in the second picture the drum sander was able to take the floor down enough including leveling out the higher gap of the new flooring. We decided to stain the floor to add some color, which I think turned out pretty good. When I started this job I did not realize how much work was going to be involved, I started off thinking this would be a 2 day project. After sanding and staining and letting each coat of polyurathane dry, it ended up being 5. Lesson learned.

June, 2009
As you can see by the order of posts May has been left out. That is because no real progress was made on the inside of the house and most of our work was done on the yard. Plus we are into boating season and with living on the river... that takes priority. In June we were able to finally get the dining room area painted and finished. With that room done I started on the second bedroom but I am having a hard time getting motivated with the nice weather. We trimmed up all of the trees and spent most of our remaining time and money on landscaping.

We went out to California for a week as my cousin Jennifer was getting married. The wedding was heald at her house in Topanga, CA. and was beautiful. The second photo is from the reception in her back yard.

April, 2009
April was a slow month for progress inside the house as we did a lot in the yard. Lots of edging outside and mulch was put down on all the new beds. We started on the dining room area and had to remove the popcorn ceiling and sand down the textured paint that had previously been used. New doors were added to the second bedroom and bathroom so now all of them are matching.

Still working on the living room. We got some temporary carpet for the room which was great for covering up the plywood floor as you can see in the first picture. We were going to keep this until some day when we were able to put down hard wood, at the time it was not a priority. Then we came across a sale we could not pass up. So, the latest project is the hardwood floor being put down in the living room. It is a red oak as the rest of the house is and eventually we will sand down the whole floor through out the house so it all matches. Right now I don't like the color of the existing floors, I think it is called golden oak. It is the golden I don't care for. We will look at different flooring colors and refinish them when the weather gets a bit nicer and we can move some things outside and out of the dust storm. The window trim is up but still needs to have the finishing nail holes filled and a last coat of paint put on.

Last weekend a group of us went camping and climbing in southern Illinois at a place called Jackson Falls. Great time. We brought the dogs and here is a picture of Liz and Trey, he is showing off his new pack which allows him to carry all his own nessesities as well as some of mine.
